Verdano Atelier is a small London workshop. We draw, build and upholster custom seating, beds and dining pieces — one room at a time, with timber and fabric you can hold in your hands before we begin.

Why Verdano

A workshop, not a warehouse.

Most furniture is built to ship flat in a box. Ours is built to live with — frames jointed in solid beech, suspension webbed by hand, foams chosen for the way you actually sit on a sofa at the end of a long day.

We work room by room, in close conversation. You can drop in to feel the linen, watch a frame being squared up, or change your mind about the leg height. Nothing is hidden behind glass.

  • Solid hardwood frames — never MDF, chipboard or staples-on-soft-pine
  • Eight-way hand-tied springs on every upholstered seat
  • Twelve-year structural guarantee on frames and joinery
Selected Pieces

Four collections, infinite variations.

Each collection is a starting point — change the timber, the upholstery, the back height, the leg profile. The structure stays the same; the rest is yours.

How a Commission Unfolds

From a rough idea to a piece in your room.

No two commissions are quite the same, but the rhythm rarely changes — four conversations, one delivery, several decades of use.

  1. Conversation

You tell us about the room, the people in it, and how the piece will earn its keep. Sketches, mood boards and battered photographs all welcome.

  2. Drawings & Materials

We send technical drawings and a curated set of fabric, leather and timber samples to your address. Hold them in the light of the actual room.

  3. Workshop Build

Frame jointed, springs hand-tied, foam shaped, fabric cut. You are welcome to drop in and see your piece halfway through — many clients do.

  4. White-Glove Delivery

Two of our team carry it up the stairs, settle it in place, and only leave once you are sitting on it with a cup of tea in your hand.

Materials

Twelve fabrics, four timbers, one room.

We do not stock thousands of options — we stock the ones that age well. Belgian linen, Yorkshire wool, full-grain saddle leather, Kvadrat boucle. English oak, American black walnut, smoked ash, fumed cherry.

Every sample box is curated by hand for your project. If we cannot picture a fabric living in your room, we will not send it.

What Clients Say

Quiet praise from people who actually use the furniture.

"We sat on every sofa in north London before commissioning Verdano. Two years on, the seat cushions look exactly as they did on delivery day. The frame still doesn't squeak."

"Refurbishing our reception area, we needed eight matching armchairs in walnut and saddle leather. They drew, sampled, built and delivered inside three months. Patience and precision, in equal measure."

"What sold me was that they refused to cut a corner I had asked them to cut. The original frame would have warped, and they said so. The piece they built instead has outlasted three sofas before it."

Common Questions

Things people ask us before they commit.

If your question isn't here, send it to [email protected] — a real person reads every email, usually within a working day.

How long does a custom-made sofa take to build?

Most upholstered pieces leave the workshop in eight to ten weeks. Solid timber bed frames and dining tables sit closer to twelve weeks because the wood needs to settle before final finishing.

Can you work from a sketch or a Pinterest board?

Yes. Bring the rough idea — a photograph, a sketch on the back of an envelope, an old chair you loved — and we'll draft technical drawings before any commitment. The first conversation is always free.

Do you deliver outside London?

We deliver and install across the UK and ship flat-pack carcasses across the EU. London postcodes get a two-person white-glove delivery; everything else is quoted by destination.

What does a typical commission cost?

A two-seat sofa in standard linen starts at £3,800. A solid oak king bed frame with upholstered headboard begins at £4,200. Custom dimensions, leather and rare timbers move the figure — we always quote in writing before any deposit.

Is there a guarantee?

Twelve years on the structural integrity of frames, joinery and springs. Two years on upholstery wear. We service and re-cover indefinitely — most of our oldest pieces have come back for a fresh fabric, never a new frame.

Can I visit the workshop?

By appointment, Monday to Saturday. Drop us an email or a call and we'll put the kettle on. Visiting is encouraged — it helps you decide what you actually want before any quotation is signed.
